Clogged Drains Got You Down? Get Help With All Your Plumbing Needs Here!

Posted on November 11, 2018November 14, 2019

Everyone has a plumbing question at one time or another. We want to know how we can fix things ourselves and to learn basic maintenance tips. This article will give you plumbing repair tips as well as maintenance tips, so you are ready for a plumbing crisis if it occurs.

Having your septic tank pumped out on a regular basis will keep it functioning properly. Deposit and debris build up in your tank can result in major problems. It will cost some to have the septic tank pumped, but it would cost much more to have it cleaned, repaired or replaced due to sewage back up.

Do not pay your plumber until they finish the job. Sometimes plumbers will request a cash deposit before any work can commence; however, you avoid paying the total bill until the whole job has been finished to your satisfaction. It is a good thing to know the plumber did his job as he agreed to before he get’s all of his money.

Don’t use bleach tablets, odor removers or those blue tablets in your toilet. These products can be great when it comes to getting rid of odors, but unfortunately, they can cause significant damage to the rubber portions of your toilet. This can lead to it breaking down or having other issues.

You can unclog a toilet by pouring warm water in the bowl from waist level. Once the water level gets low again, repeat the process.

Avoid dumping oil, fat, and grease in your drain. When they cool, they will harden and create clogs in your drains. This is most true if you use a garbage disposal, as the fat causes the blades to function slower and they will become less efficient. Dump your oil outside or in a container that you throw out with the regular trash.

If you notice orange or pink stains in your bathroom fixtures, this is because of the iron in your water. You can deal with use by using a water softener, which is something you can get on your own at a local retailer, or by hiring a professional to come out.

To lessen the chances of toilet problems, do not use as a place to put trash. Nothing should be flushed down the toilet except human waste and toilet tissue. Flushing sanitary napkins, diapers, disposable napkins, and other materials is a sure recipe for a clogged drain and a backed-up toilet. Reduce your use of toilet paper if you notice frequent clogs.

Running cold water while using your garbage disposal is recommended even though some people insist that you don’t have to. It is a common misconception that water will aid in flushing the food down the drain. Water can cause food to stick to the moving parts, and this could create damage.

You need to be educated before something happens. If you do maintenance regularly, you can prevent problems. Apply the tips provided in the above article, and you’ll be prepared for all plumbing needs you’ll have in the future.
